From Frogner to Fredensborg

The view from the Deichmanske Bibliotek (Oslo Public Library)

Very soon I will be living in an apartment in Fredensborg. The thought sounds kind of strange as I have technically been living there for a while now, at my boyfriends apartment. Suddenly the apartment will also include my furniture, my photographs. I will be able to make my very own mark within the walls that I have half-inhabited for almost a year. I love Fredensborg. I love how it is in the center of the city yet quiet. Almost forgotten. I wouldn't call it the heart of Oslo... maybe more a part of its old soul. An afterthought. It has always been there, but it doesn't really stand out.

I've seen the place develop in the short time I've frequented its anonymous streets. First there was Den Gode Cafe, the coziest cafe that I've been to in Oslo. Then came the furniture store Modern Tribute. Almost out of place, but in its right place at the same time. A little while later a tattoo parlour popped up: Blue Arms Tattoo, complete with beautiful retro interior and random celebrity clientele.  Scattered across the streets are small offices for creatives, photo studios, and even a school for DJ's. Yet this place isn't considered up-and-coming. It doesn't look pretentious.

Just a few minutes away is a crooked cobblestone road that leads up to Damstredet, a charming area of Oslo with tiny houses and little antique shops. Most of the houses were built in the beginning of the 1800's. This hidden area is in my humble opinion one of Oslos best kept little secrets. If I ever become a millionaire I will buy a tiny house there. If one ever goes for sale, that is. Plastered on the window of an old kiosk down my street is a sign saying that United Bakeries is soon to open. It both excites me and worries me. A real bakery.... in Fredensborg. The ability to purchase soya lattes and freshly baked bread just minutes away. Thoughts of an army of baby carriages parked outside frightens me and makes me reflective at the same time. Nothing ever stays the same.

Very soon I will be living in Fredensborg! On the first of March I will be moving into an area of Oslo that I am completely enamored with.

Snapshots and life lately

A little snapshot of my beautiful Epilogue skirt (name dropping brands already I see) and a gorgeous calling card.

The first entry

This is my first entry. I've decided to start all over again. I want to write about things that matter to me, and take pictures of things that touch me. I've been in dire need of a space where I don't have to write the brand of every single item that I am wearing. I dont want to wear things that are "in store now" just because that makes them commercially relevant.  My new goals: I want to look classic, never trendy. I am banning myself completely from high street stores like H&M and Bik Bok. I am going to learn how to sew properly and start buying used clothes again (the term vintage irritates me senselessly at the moment - it has been abused). I am going to make a beautiful, timeless and most importantly unpretentious home, be calm and reflective, work very hard and focus on the important things in life. I am not going to let small things and small people phase me. I am going to start producing writing again, in both Norwegian and English. I am going to focus on a beautiful and unique life. Not on being a fashionista blogger girl. The whole idea of it makes me cringe. I'll leave that to others who are passionate for exactly that. I'm not.
